Robert Allen Obituary

Robert "Bobby" Allen, age 95 passed away peacefully Saturday, August 17, 2024 at Brightview Senior Living in Randolph, New Jersey.
Born in Rockaway Borough to the late Harry and Carrie Allen, he was a lifelong resident of the Borough. Bobby had graduated from Rockaway High School and entered the US Army shortly thereafter. While seeing front line action in North Korea during the Korean War, he was promoted to Sergeant First Class. After serving his country in the military, he returned home with an honorable discharge and started his career as a Tool and Die Maker at Picatinny Arsenal.
Bobby enjoyed riding his beloved Indian motorcycle, boating with family and friends on Lake Hopatcong, showcasing his talent by playing in local bands, and golfing. He enjoyed travel to Hawaii, Florida and Europe. In his retirement, Robert kept himself busy by volunteering at the Picatinny Arsenal's Frog Falls Water Park, spending time at Disney World with family at his favorite resort the Polynesian, attending plays, recitals, concerts and performances of his family, going pumpkin picking, on hayrides and riding horses. Bob loved going to Sunday Mass with his family and enjoyed time at the local diner every week afterward. Holidays were so special with family and included trips to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, get togethers at family Christmas Trees and dyeing and hunting for Easter eggs. Family and friends meant everything to Bob.
In addition to his parents, Robert is preceded in death by his two sisters, Marguerite Allen Donofrio, Dorothea Allen; and his infant brother, Harry.
He is survived by his sister Carolyn Allen of Rockaway Borough, his nephew Frederick Allen Donofrio of Randolph, NJ; his niece Carolyn Smith of Penn Hills, PA; five grandnieces and nephews; and nine great-grand nieces and nephews who all affectionately called him "Uncle Bob".
Visitation will be held on both Tuesday and Wednesday, August 20th and 21st, 2024 from 4:00 to 7:00PM at Whitham-Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller. Ave., Rockaway, NJ. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 22, 2024 at 10:30 AM at Resurrection Parish Roman Catholic Church, 651 Millbrook Ave., Randolph, NJ. Interment will follow at Rockaway Presbyterian Cemetery, 35 Church St., Rockaway NJ.
