Patricia Ashcraft Obituary

Patricia Marie Andrick Ashcraft, 93, of Corbin Branch Community passed away Friday, August 16, 2024. She was born April 24, 1931 in Philippi, a daughter of the late Herbert Walker Andrick and Olive Marie Dadisman Andrick.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Kenneth Lee Ashcraft, on April 3, 2022. They were united in marriage on August 11, 1950.
Patty is survived by three children, Kirk Ashcraft, Gail Marie Hogan, and Lisa Lea Carr and her husband Rick all of Bridgeport and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded by her grandson Sean William Hogan, a brother, Victor Andrick and two sisters, Louise Jones and Lois "Jean" Shroyer.
Patty graduated from Shinnston High School, Class of 1949. As a teenager she worked at GC Murphy's in Shinnston. Most of her life she was a homemaker and a mother to her children as well as a second mother to many of her children's friends.
Patty was a longtime member of the Bridgeport United Methodist Church. She was involved with many of the church groups and activities. She received her 50-year pin as a member of the Bridgeport United Methodist Women. She taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School and worked at the pre-school at the church for many years. Patty was also responsible for the church prayer chain for many years.
Patty was active in the Bridgeport community as a member of the Bridgeport Originals CEOS for 45 years and was chosen as CEOS Belle for Harrison County in 2004. She was a leader with 4-H, Cub Scouts, Brownies and Girl Scouts. She also assisted at the FBI daycare facility when it moved to Harrison County.
She had many hobbies including reading, working jigsaw puzzles, word searches, sewing, listening to music and spending time with family and friends. She loved going to the mountains and staying at their camp along the South Branch outside of Romney.
She was known for her cooking, including making cakes for friends and especially her hot dog and spaghetti sauces. Gardening and canning were also important activities for her. Patty was an animal lover and greatly enjoyed her furry friends including Rascus, Queenie, M&M, Ringo and Jazzy.

Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Ave, Bridgeport on Thursday August 22 from 2 to 8 pm. The funeral service will be held at 11 am Friday at Bridgeport United Methodist Church, 251 Worthington Drive, Bridgeport with Rev. Dr. Matthew Paugh and Rev. Jim Lang presiding. She will lie in state 1 hour prior to the funeral service. Interment will follow at Bridgeport Cemetery.
