Roy SPARKES Obituary

I have just heard the news of Roy's passing and felt immensely sad. Whilst also feeling privileged to have known such a brilliant teacher and been so deeply inspired by his love of painting and the arts in general. He was my art teacher some sixty odd years ago at Slade Green Secondary School in Kent. Contact with him in my early years changed my life and gave me a wonderful platform to enter into my developing future!

Roy Sparkes was my Art teacher at the Downs school and one of the best . I have very fond memories of our conversations in sixth form and wish I had stayed in touch . He is the main reason I have gone back to painting in my later years . I was so sad to hear the news of his passing but he will live on in our memories and his Art work Love and condolences to all the family

A great friend and colleague whose knowledge, influence and encouragement has been of value for so many over the years. A pretty nice guy too.
